What Are Signs You Need Water Heater Repair?

If you’re in Silver Spring and suspect that your water heater may need repair, it’s essential to be aware of the signs that indicate a problem. A malfunctioning water heater can lead to discomfort and potentially costly damage.

Here are some signs that you may need water heater repair:

  1. Inadequate Hot Water: If your water heater is producing less hot water than usual or if you run out of hot water quickly, it could be a sign of a problem. This might indicate issues with the heating element, thermostat, or sediment buildup in the tank.
  2. Strange Noises: Unusual noises coming from your water heater, such as popping, hissing, banging, or cracking sounds, may be caused by sediment buildup or a malfunctioning heating element.
  3. Water Leaks: Any signs of water pooling around the base of the water heater or leaking from the tank itself are serious issues that require immediate attention. This can indicate a failing tank or a damaged valve.
  4. Rusty Water: If you notice rusty or discolored water when you turn on the hot tap, it may indicate corrosion inside the tank. This is a sign that the tank may be deteriorating and may need to be replaced.
  5. Fluctuating Water Temperatures: If the water temperature varies dramatically while you’re using hot water, it could be due to issues with the thermostat, heating element, or other internal components.
  6. Foul Odors: A foul or metallic smell coming from your hot water may indicate bacterial growth inside the tank. This can be a health concern and should be addressed promptly.
  7. Age of the Water Heater: The lifespan of a typical water heater is around 10-15 years. If your water heater is approaching or has surpassed this age range, it may be more prone to problems and may require more frequent repairs.
  8. Pilot Light Issues (for gas water heaters): If you have a gas water heater and the pilot light keeps going out, it may be due to a faulty thermocouple, gas valve, or other components.
  9. High Energy Bills: A sudden increase in your energy bills without any other explanation could be a sign that your water heater is not operating efficiently, possibly due to a malfunctioning component.
  10. Visible Corrosion: If you see visible signs of corrosion or rust on the outside of the tank or around the fittings, it may indicate a problem with the tank’s integrity.

“Explained things in layman terms so it was easy to understand”
I had an emergency after Washington Gas said that there was a gas leak from the meter from the regulator and they said that it needed to be replaced immediately. They were able to send someone over in a few hours and although the cost was on emergency rates, the pricing was still competitive among other companies and were very responsive. They had someone come over beforehand to check the leak to see what part needed to be replaced before they had the technician come over which was very helpful. Troy was very knowledgeable and explained things in layman terms so it was easy to understand. I would highly recommend Mallick Plumbing & Heating for future issues.
