  • Unplugging the unit and checking for any utensils or other items clogging the gears
  • Check the circuit breaker to make sure there is power
  • Press the red reset button under the unit

You can prevent future garbage disposal problems with proper care and maintenance. Avoid putting in hard, fibrous, or starchy foods or overfilling the disposal to prevent damage to the unit. Use cold water when running the disposal and continue running the water for 30 seconds after all food has been ground up to keep the unit clean. Run ice cubes in the unit about once a month to sharpen the blades and remove any accumulated food. I am remodeling my master bathroom and I contacted Mallick Plumbing to come and provide me with an estimate for the rough-in. The gentleman who came out to meet me was on time and was very polite and knowledgeable at his trade.
